Consultation at the Northants Hair and Scalp Clinic A consultation at the Northants Hair and Scalp Clinic is a private-based service where we can diagnose and treat your hair loss or scalp complaint.

The NHSC ensures qualified trichologist practitioners give their patients a confidential, ethical service, offering guidance and support without the exploitation that often occurs through other forms of traders with a lack of medical knowledge and expensive miracle cures. We treat and diagnose Caucasian and Afro-Caribbean hair types of male and female patients experiencing hair or scalp disorders.

Qualified trichologist practitionersAn initial consultation will last approximately one hour. Diagnosing your condition involves conducting a full case history, thoroughly examining your hair and scalp under a magnifying lamp and the use of microscopy to study the hair. We will thoroughly explain the condition, provide you with information to take home and give you an honest, accurate prognosis. In some instances it may be relevant to write a letter to your GP, requesting antibiotics or blood tests to eliminate any underlying medical issues suspected which is included in the cost of the consultation. A trichologist is a good listener; we ensure confidentiality and offer support to patients.

Treatment is not always necessary for some hair loss problems, just simply a correct diagnosis and identifying and removing the causative factors can be enough to rectify a problem (for instance a nutritional deficiency).

Treatments available from the clinic

There are treatments available from the clinic if beneficial to the patient’s condition.

There is also the possibility to personalise a shampoo/lotion or ointment for home use via trichologists who hold a valid mixing preparation licence or via our doctor to prescribe certain private medications that are POM (prescription- only medication), such as Propecia/Finasteride. Scalp problems can therefore be treated at home so you do not have to keep returning to the clinic.

Affordable treatments for home use are £15-£45 per month dependent on the diagnosis.

Treatments for home use have been regulated and tested by the MHRA (Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency). This means they are safe, licensed and proven to work and not expensive placebos, miracle cures that have no clinical data.
